Kick Big Oil Out of FIFA & LASEC
WHY IT MATTERS
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has become a tool for the world's most powerful polluters to clean their image. While our communities burn, flood, and are displaced, as the climate crisis rages out of control, the corporations and executives behind the spectacle make record breaking profits.
The World Cup will generate over 9 million tonnes of CO₂ ,equivalent to 6.5 million cars on the road for a year.
FIFA's main sponsor is Saudi Aramco, the single largest corporate polluter in history.
Aramco's sponsorship of FIFA could induce an additional 30 million tonnes of CO₂e in 2026 alone through sales linked to promotion of the company.
In 2025, UN human rights experts formally condemned Aramco for "misleading public relations and greenwashing campaigns," accusing the company of the "largest-ever corporate breach of international climate human rights law."
The LASEC Connection: Sportswashing in LA
The LA Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) is the local engine of sportswashing. They exist to bring mega-events to LA, polishing the image of polluters and war profiteers while claiming to serve the community.
LASEC's Board & Partners Include:
Oil and gas executives like Todd Stevens (Black Knight Energy Resources).
Military contractors like Stephen Oswald (Ducommun Incorporated, a major aerospace and defense contractor).
Mark Walter, the CEO of Guggenheim Partners, whose firm profited from GEO Group, the private prison company that runs ICE detention centers.
Palantir Technologies, a company that has a $30 million contract with ICE to build surveillance and deportation infrastructure, has active partnerships with LASEC-affiliated entities.
What do we want???
FIFA must end its sponsorship deal all Fossil Fuel Polluters & Big Polluters.
Aramco is the single largest corporate polluter in history. In 2026 & beyond FIFA should not be bankrolled by the company that is driving the climate crisis.
FIFA must pay for the climate damage caused by the World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will generate over 9 million tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to 6.5 million cars on the road for a year. FIFA and its sponsors must fund climate reparations for frontline communities.
End All LA County City Contracts with LASEC.
The LA Sports & Entertainment Commission boards are stacked with corporate executives, not community members. With limited government over-site, yet are making decisions & deals on behalf of LA community members.
LASEC must drop their dark money executives.
Oil & gas executives, military contractors, and financiers of private prisons and surveillance, have no place on LASEC's boards. They profit from the crises our communities are fighting to survive.
